The Jewellery Quarter Business Improvement District (JQBID) exists to improve the business environment and experiences of those living, working, visiting and learning in the Jewellery Quarter, and is funded by the local business community.

JQ Life is a quarterly magazine set out to promote the Jewellery Quarter’s 5 key pillars as a unique place to Live, Learn, Work, Visit and Invest. 

After a successful tender process with a new editorial and design approach, Digital Glue took over production of JQ Life magazine in May 2018.

Challenge

JQ Life is a print magazine that is distributed across Birmingham to local businesses, cafes, and attractions. However, distributing a print magazine during the COVID-19 pandemic was not going to be appropriate. Businesses across the city were closed, and footfall was extremely low – there wasn’t anyone around to pick up and engage with the magazine. Plus, social distancing and lockdown made it impossible to go out, interview and take photos of people for the magazine, as we would usually.

However, during this pandemic the need for the magazine was greater than ever both to celebrate the community of the JQ during this difficult time and inform people on how they can support the local community.

 

Results

Despite not being able to go to print, JQBID have still been able to produce one of their main pieces of marketing collateral, proving their commitment to the business community they support.

The special issue of JQ Life has had over 300 reads in just the first week of publication. It has also benefited from a wider reach from the businesses featured sharing the edition amongst the community.
